		<description><![CDATA[Saturday, 2/11 @ 1:45pm. Keynote speaker, Dr. Miriam Kelty Ph.D. ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>MCC Senior Program will meet on <strong>Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:45pm.</strong></p>
<p>Our keynote speaker will be <strong>Dr. Miriam Kelty Ph.D</strong>. A national leading expert in developing &#8220;Villages &#8220;.</p>
<p>Dr. Kelty will lead the discussion on  key elements that go into developing a special Muslim Village and all its benefits. She will describe different models of villages, the growth of the villages in the Washington area, services they provide, and challenges she has experienced as a leader on Bannockburn Neighbors Assisting Neighbors.</p>
<p>Miriam Kelty is a psychologist who retired from NIH after working as Associate Director of the National Institute on Aging for more than 20 years.  Since her retirement, she works as an independent consultant in bioethics, research strategies, and in aging.  She helped organize her own neighborhood Village, Bannockburn Neighbors Assisting Neighbors.  She has met with more than an dozen Washington area communities to share her experiences and to advise them on starting their own villages.  Miriam serves on the Montgomery County Commission on Aging, its Aging in Place in the Community Committee, and on the Adult Protective Services Guardianship Review Board.  She is a co-founder of Washington Area Villages Exchange, a federation of established villages and those being planned that fosters information sharing, consultation, and tries to help communities avoid reinventing the wheel.</p>

This month <strong>Imam Daoud Nassimi</strong> will lead the halaqa on &#8220;Contributing to a Virtuous Society.&#8221; InshaAllah we will explore practical ways to enrich ourselves and our communities in light of ayat-al-birr (2:177).<br />

<p><strong>FOR STUDENTS: </strong>You&#8217;ve learn&#8217;t English and now you want to work. How do you find a job? How do you find the right training? This workshop will help you find the answers.</p>
<p><strong>FOR TEACHERS:</strong> So your students have learned how to speak English &#8211; now what do they do? This  workshop showcases strategies to assist students who have acquired basic English proficiency, in realistically advancing their short and long term future prospects.  What are the best career options out there? How long does it take to train?  How much does it cost?  Is there a job at the end of training? How much does it pay? By asking the right questions and guiding them to the answers, we will demonstrate how to help students identify their skills, goals, and next steps. This is a joint student teacher workshop, and real teachers will be asked to help real Muslim Community Center students.  You are of course welcome to bring your own students.</p>
