Topic: Islam & Science
Speaker: Br. Youssef Slitine, CEO Global High-Tech Solutions is a common figure in the Muslim Community of The Washington Metropolitan Area, especially at The Muslim Community Center. Since moving to the area in 1998, he has been actively involved in Islamic education and studies. Starting as a teacher of Arabic and Islamic studies, and through his dedication and hard work he deservedly earned the position of the Principal of the Islamic Academy of MCC, then he became acting Imam of MCC in 2001. Youssef Slitine is known as a prolific speaker and khateeb in various Masajid in the area. He holds a BA in English and currently doing his Masters in Information Technolgy, Software Engineering. He has published a translation of Ibn Qayyim Al Jawziyya called: Ibn Qayyim and the Invocation of God. Currently, Youssef Slitine is the CEO of his own IT Services company, Global High Tech Solution.

Topic: Muslims for a Safe America
Speaker: Kamran Memon, Esq. is the founder of Muslims For A Safe America. In 1997, Mr. Memon graduated from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a student of Professor Barack Obama. Mr. Memon works as a civil rights attorney in Chicago. He has represented Muslim victims of discrimination before and after 9/11. He is a member of the Illinois Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. He is a co-founder of the Muslim Bar Association of Chicago and CAIR-Chicago. He is a former host of Radio Islam on WCEV 1450 AM in Chicago. (His weekly, hour-long talk show dealt primarily with Islam and national security.) He is the former editor of Islamic Horizons, published by the Islamic Society of North America.

Sr. Salma Abugideiri – Co-Director, Peaceful Families Project. Sister Salma is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) at her own practice Wellness Through Counseling. She has been practicing as a counselor for over 12 years. As the primary trainer for the Peaceful Families Project, she conducts workshops for diverse audiences on topics related to domestic violence prevention, establishing healthy families, understanding the dynamics of domestic violence, cultural competency, and train-the-trainers. Ms. Abugideiri develops curricula and contributes to PFP’s resource development. She brings her experience as a mental health therapist to the trainings she provides. She has authored several articles in domestic violence in publications such as Islamic Horizons and Azizah Magazine.
