About the Imam

Sh. Mohamed Abdullahi is the Imam at the Muslim Community Center (MCC), where he leads daily congregational, Jummah and Janazah prayers, and delivers weekly Tafseer, Fiqh and Sunnah lectures. Imam also provides guidance and support to the community in the matters of Shariah.

After completing memorization of the Qur’an at the age of eleven, Imam went on to study Shariah and gained comprehensive knowledge of Hadith and Fiqh. He is a certified Qari in three styles of recitation and has command of Arabic, Somali, Swahili and English.

Since 1987, Sh. Abdullahi has served as a teacher and Imam at various Washington, DC area Masajids and Islamic schools.

Prior to joining MCC he was Imam at the Masjid Abdul-Moghni in LaPlata, MD, where he led five daily congregational prayers, delivered Tafseer and Hadith lectures, and taught Tajweed classes. Imam Mohamed was also a religious volunteer with the Southern Maryland Pre-Release Unit (SMPRU) at Charlotte Hall, MD, where he organized Islamic Outreach Program for Muslim inmates. He has also served as Director and teacher at Dar-ul-Nur, The Islamic Institution for Somali Muslim Community in Falls Church, VA. There he taught beginner and advanced level Arabic courses for adults, and delivered weekly Tafseer and Fiqh lectures. He has also taught Arabic, Qur’an, and Islamic studies at the Al-Huda School in College Park, MD.

Sh. Abdullahi graduated with Honors in Licentiate (Masters-level) in Arabic Language and Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. He also holds a Diploma in Shariah from the National Somali University in Mogadishu, Somalia.
