Community at Muslim Community Center revolves around various committees. Members who wish to volunteer for these committees should take their commitment seriously and be prepared to devote enough time to them.

Young Adults and Professionals

MCC Young Adults and Professionals is designed to create a vibrant and inclusive space for individuals aged 21 and above, including college students, post-graduates, professionals, adults in their 30s and 40s, as well as young parents. The program aims to foster a sense of community, facilitate spiritual growth, and strengthen bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood among its members. Additionally, the program seeks to establish a strong connection between the participants and the masjid. We envision a dynamic and supportive community where young adults and professionals feel inspired to engage in spiritual development, personal growth, and meaningful connections. The vision includes a space where individuals can navigate the challenges of their respective life stages with the guidance of knowledgeable mentors, scholars, and peers.

Family Engagement Committee

The Family Engagement Committee (FEC) is dedicated to promoting healthy family relationships through interactive platforms and collaborative social activities in both small and large group settings, as well as for couples. The FEC prioritizes age-inclusive programs where all family members are valued and included. It provides a platform for conversations and various exchanges, fostering an environment where relationships can grow in a healthy way. The FEC believes that the family is the nucleus of society and should be protected, preserved, and promoted.

Muslim Youth Organization

The Muslim Youth Organization aims to establish a bond between the Muslim youth of the community and connect them with the masjid in an environment where individuals feel comfort and inspiration through the teaching of the Quran and Sunnah as well as halal events and activities. The organization serves as a platform for youth to have a voice in the community and become successful, independent adults who continue to add to the growth of the community. It aims to serve youth in middle school, high school, and early college with programs separated by age and gender, with occasional joint programs.

Muslim Sisters’ Alliance

The Muslim Sisters’ Alliance is dedicated to empowering sisters aged 15 and older within the local community, enhancing their religious, health, personal, and social aspects of life. This group values the diversity of the sisters in the community and aims to provide a comprehensive support system that includes spiritual, intellectual, mental, physical, social, and financial growth.

MCC Seniors

The MCC Seniors Program provides persons 55+ with a multi-purpose, culturally and ethnically sensitive, inter-generational program and services. We offer social, educational, recreational activities and outreach. The program targets Montgomery County residents; however, we welcome all. Our members enjoy monthly trips, special events, stimulating lectures and activities, spiritual guidance by Sh. Mohamed Abdullahi, skills development, activities to help get or stay in shape, and delicious home cooked lunches that are lovingly prepared by members of our program and are served buffet style. Voluntary contributions from participants help support the program.

  • Overview: The program includes monthly trips, special events, stimulating lectures, skills development activities, physical fitness opportunities, and home-cooked lunches served buffet style. Spiritual advising is provided by Imam Sh. Mohamed Abdullahi.
  • Program Schedule: Events are held on the second Saturday of every month, from 1:45 PM to 4:30 PM.

  • Participation: Open to all seniors interested in joining. Voluntary contributions from participants are welcomed to support the program’s offerings.

    • Transportation assistance.
    • Food pantry access for the needy.
    • Friendly telephone reassurance services.
    • Information and referral services.
    • Technical support provided by Young Ambassadors.
  • Health Services: In partnership with the MCC Medical Clinic, the program offers free flu shots, health screenings, and lectures on health promotion and disease prevention.

MCC Social Services

Guided by the teachings of the Quran 2:177, MCC Social Services is devoted to translating Islamic beliefs into actions of service to humankind. This committee is focused on providing essential services to the poor, needy, and refugees, ensuring they receive the support needed where other agencies may fall short.

  • Food Pantry: Distributes food boxes monthly containing dry food items to verified families in need, both local and refugees. Special distributions of Halal meat and other items occur during Ramadan and the two Eids.
  • Refugee English Program: The Refugee English Program (REP) at MCC Social Services is dedicated to helping adult refugees in Maryland improve their English language skills.
  • Refugee Help Program: Provides ongoing support in health, housing, food, and mentoring to refugees arriving in Maryland.
  • Support for Widows and Orphans: Offers ongoing monthly support to help meet the basic needs of widows and orphans within the community.
  • Donation Options:
    • Fidya: An expiation for missed fasts, charged at $10 per person for each day of missed fasting.
    • Zakat ul-Fitr: Mandatory charity given before the Eid Ul-Fitr prayer at the end of Ramadan, amounting to $10 for each member of your family.
    • Sadaqa: Accepts donations in any amount to support various charitable activities within the community.
    • Refugee Help: Provides financial assistance to pay rent, thus preventing evictions, and offers support for medical expenses and cash assistance to help unemployed refugees.
  • Donations: Donations can be made online here by selecting “Food Pantry” for feeding the poor and needy or “Social Services” for refugee help.
